The Montgomery County Commission for Women will host its 45th Annual Women’s Legislative Briefing (WLB), at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG). USG is located at 9630 Gudelsky Drive in Rockville.
This year’s theme, EMPOW(HER): Breaking Barriers to Success, calls for collective efforts to foster environments where women and girls can achieve success without facing limitations based on gender. It highlights empowering women by overcoming obstacles that limit their growth, promoting gender equality and creating opportunities for success.
The WLB will feature a dynamic keynote panel with prominent leaders sharing insights on overcoming barriers, inspiring change and fostering empowerment.
The event is open to the public. Early Bird registration is $45 for participants and $10 for students until Jan. 22, at which time prices will increase to $55. Attendees can participate in a variety of breakout sessions on timely topics, including sexual assault and domestic violence prevention, reproductive health, economic justice, human trafficking prevention and environmental and climate change issues. These sessions will feature members of the Maryland General Assembly, policy advocates and representatives from local and state organizations dedicated to advancing the status of women and girls.
The WLB offers Emerging Leaders sessions for students in grades 6–12. These interactive workshops focus on civic engagement and leadership development, empowering the next generation to drive change in their communities.
An invite-only networking reception for leaders of co-sponsoring organizations and corporations will also be held, fostering collaboration among key stakeholders.
