D.C. Moves To Buy Georgia Avenue Properties After NDC Foreclosure
June 24, 2025Four large grocery stores that occupy ground-floor space in multifamily buildings in the D.C. area are set to close.
Harris Teeter plans to close two Arlington locations, one in Tysons and another in North Bethesda, local news outlets reported, citing email notices to customers.
The notices come just days after its parent company, Kroger, announced it would close 60 “underperforming” stores over the next 18 months, equating to 5% of its total locations.
The local stores reportedly set to shutter are at 950 S. George Mason Drive and 3600 S. Glebe Road in Arlington, 8200 Crestwood Heights Drive in Tysons, and 11845 Old Georgetown Road in North Bethesda.
Harris Teeter didn’t respond to a request for comment.
The George Mason Drive location opened in 53K SF on the ground floor of Orr Partners’ Centro Arlington in 2019. The three others have been open for at least 15 years, the Washington Business Journal reported.
